Business leaders partner with young people at the Development School for Youth. |
Launched in 1999, New Jersey All Stars sponsors two innovative after-school programs: the All Stars Talent Show Network and the Development School for Youth. New Jersey All Stars is at the forefront of a new trend in education, known as supplemental education, which recognizes outside of school learning opportunities as critical to urban children's success in school and in life.
The All Stars Talent Show Network uses a "performance-learning" approach to foster the emotional and social development of young people. Each year, hundreds of urban youth between the ages of 5 and 25 participate in All Stars events including auditions, rehearsals, talent shows, and development workshops. All Stars events have taken place at Barringer High School and other schools and community centers throughout the Newark area.
The Development School for Youth (DSY) is a leadership training and career education program for young people ages 16-21. Approximately 100 young adults enroll in the DSY every year and participate in workshops, mock job interviews and paid summer internships sponsored by corporate professionals from more than two-dozen New Jersey corporations.
Talented Volunteers, the volunteer program of the All Stars, involves hundreds of adults from all over New Jersey. Volunteers directly impact the work of All Stars through activities such as outreaching to young people, providing office support, and staffing special event and neighborhood talent shows.
New Jersey All Stars is headquartered in the heart of downtown Newark. Minutes from NJPAC, Newark Penn Station, and the historic Ironbound section, New Jersey All Stars is in the middle of it all!
